Build Dorm Loft Bed

Cut or construct a box using four of the 2 x 6 inch boards.

Connect the 79 inch 2 x 6 boards to the 54 inch 2 x 6 boards with wood glue. Believe it or not you can build an awesome camp loft bed for just 50 in supplies. It s great for a tight space and the unique stairs give you more wall space. If you think loft beds are reserved only for kid s rooms or shared spaces it s time to reconsider.

Connect the planks with the nuts and lag bolts with your wrench. With the height of your loft space determined it s time to build your loft bed frame. Measure the mattress adding a couple of inches on both sides for sheets and blankets and adding about 2 feet to the length to create a sitting platform. Several of my fellow students would build their beds up like this and keep stuff underneath.

Create the top frame by attaching one 2 by 4 to the end wall and one to the side wall with lag bolts through the boards and into wall studs. Create a butt joint by placing the 54 inch board to the inside of the 79 inch board. 2assemble the bed frame. Using a drill create pilot holes in the boards in which the nuts and screws will go. Make sure you begin your build on the floor or other large flat surface.
